Abstract | We examine whether workaholism still influences both work (i.e., job satisfaction) and non-work outcomes (i.e., individual health) after controlling for actual work hours. In addition, since most workaholics spend long hours working in offices and dealing with job assignments, we examine whether two factors can attenuate the negative consequences of workaholism: the office’s physical environment (Zhong & House, 2012) and the employee’s external regulation (the extent to which they are motivated by external demands and extrinsic rewards when working; Ryan & Deci, 2000). |
