Abstract | The solution procedure and parameter analysis for the joint stationary probability density function (PDF) of the responses of hysteretic systems excited by Gaussian white noise are presented in this paper. The PDF solution is governed by the well-known Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov (FPK) equation which is solved with the exponential-polynomial closure (EPC) method. In order to assess the effectiveness of the solution procedure, a nonlinear system incorporated with the Bouc-Wen hardening hysteretic model is studied. Numerical results show that the PDFs obtained with the EPC method are in good agreement with those from Monte Carlo simulation, especially in the tail regions of the PDFs. The analysis also reveals that the tails of the PDFs of the system responses deviate much from being Gaussian even if the excitation intensity is low. |
