Abstract | In the 21st century, around the world, many countries set a high priority seeking worthwhile curriculum practices and educational policies in order to establish an effective school system for the K-12 school-age children. However, no education system can provide Macao a ready-made curriculum model. If there is one such model available serving as an exemplar, adoption admittedly is generally difficult. This paper aims at introducing Macao’s 15 years of experiences of primary mathematics education, after the official handover of the former Portuguese enclave to China in 1999. This study describes a model of educational practice on the topic of teaching of numbers, taking Macao’s reality of an amalgamation of the cultures of the East and West into account in the discussion. |
