AbstractTaking into consideration that green tourist would behave more ethically, an attempt was made to study whether knowledge associated with green hotel (GH) affects the Chinese tourist perception of important implementation initiatives by hotels, and their willingness to engage in environmental friendly behavior during their stay in the hotel. A survey was conducted to determine whether Chinese tourists are aware of green hotels, what they considered as important ecological initiatives for implementation by hotels and whether they engage in environmental friendly behavior. Findings revealed that the level of knowledge on green hotels did not differ significantly among Chinese from different countries of origin. Demographic characteristics did not generalize environmental friendly behavior. Mainland Chinese tourists who chose to stay in green hotels demonstrated they would behave in an environmentally friendly manner compared to those who did not. Further research should be conducted to understand sustainable ethical behavior while away-from-home.
