Abstract | In this study, two types of dynamic statistical models, namely time-varying autoregressive model of order p (TVAR9p)) and the time-varying autoregressive model with inclusion of linear exogenous meteorological input (TVAREX-Lin), were applied to hindcast the ozone concentration of Macau in 2009. By comparing the general modelling performance and the capability to capture the pollution episode, it was found that the TVAREX-Lin is a more efficient model, hence showing that the selection of input variables during model construction is important. In addition, it was found that the daily variation of tropospheric ozone in Macau is closely linked to the nature of the transported air masses by the prevailing wind, the dispersion condition, the solar radiation and the humidity condition on the day of prediction. |
