Abstract | Chinese language is characterized by ground-preference based on Object-centered cognitive style affected by philosophy of Oneness of Man and Nature, as opposed to English figure-preference based on Ego-centric cognitive style affected by philosophy of Man is the Measure of All Things. The contrast between Chinese and English cognitive styles underlies not only languages, but also cultural characteristics, which provides the approach of cross-cultural Chinese teaching,including such cross-cultural comparison as word order, surname and last name order, narrative tyle, definition of discount concept, landscape and garden designing and so on. |
