| Abstract | There are two d ifferent reference patterns in movement actions. Taking the observer as its reference, lai(来) /qu(去) belong to an external facto r in movement path schema, whose semantic distance to movement location is there fore re lative ly grea.t In com pa rison, taking the lo ca tion as its re ference, other direc tiona l verbs are integrated as internal parts o f the path schema, whose semantic distance to location are much shorter than that of lai /qu. As a result, the difference between lai /qu and other directional verbs on their sem an tic d istance to location constrains their syntactic sequences. |
