Part I includes the introduction of theories of discourse analysis and the German school functionalism as well as discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of these theories. Part II applies some of these theories in the study of English-Chinese translations. The texts for analysis and discussion cover wide range of text types, which include political texts, news reports, advertisements, citations.
