Abstract | A low-profile planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) with bandwidth enhancement is proposed by adopting the TM0,1/2 and TM2,1/2 modes. Initially, by introducing the shorting pins below the widened radiating patch, the resonant frequencies of TM0,1/2 and TM2,1/2 modes are moved closely to each other. Then, a linear slot is cut on the radiating patch in order to reduce the equivalent inductance caused by the shorting pins and probe feed. As a result, the antenna achieves a wide impedance bandwidth with stable radiation pattern under the operation of the dual radiative resonant modes. Finally, the proposed PIFA is fabricated and measured. The result shows that the impedance bandwidth of the antenna is dramatically improved to about 15.3% with a low profile property of about 0.036 free -space wavelength. |
