AbstractThis reflection, motivated by native Spanish speaking students of the highest level of Portuguese as a Foreign Language, led us to analyse the importance and influence of the knowledge of a Mother Tongue in learning a foreign language. the results of this study show that native Spanish speaking students have greater difficulty transposing new information with pre-existing knowledge, when the structures are similar.
