Abstract | Objective Information technology (IT) has been infiltrated into daily life of Secondary School students gradually. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of e-intervention on exercise attitude, physical activity and fitness on Macau Secondary School students. Methodology With a two-group (e-intervention and control) pre-post design, 294 participants were recruited from 8 classes of 7th grade in two secondary schools to explore e-interventions of 12 weeks (trial 1), 18 weeks (trial 2) or 36 weeks (trial 3) on exercise self-efficacy and behavior, physical activity and health-related physical fitness. e-interventions, which included logging on exercise consultations website, emails,SMS and exercise consultation tips, were conducted in trail 1, trail 2 and trail 3. Control group had similar conditions of study and PE class in sham e-intervention. Results e-intervention had some positive effect on the cognitive ability in Macau Secondary School students, but had no significant changes in the scores of exercise, self-efficacy & behavior, and the levels of physical activity and health-related physical fitness. Conclusion It suggests, for Macau Secondary School students, it’s a long way to go to participate in physical activity regularly and to improve physical fitness level effectively. More attractive means and initiatives with multilateral intervention should be further studied. |
