Abstract | This paper presents a comparison study of a conventional parallel and a proposed b-shaped L-type hybrid active power filter (HAPF) for power quality compensation. Mathematical models of both topologies and their corresponding VA rating estimated formula of active power filter (APF) have been built and deduced respectively. Compared with the conventional parallel HAPF, the proposed HAPF topology can have a larger VA rating reduction of the APF. Finally, simulation results are given to verify the comparison study. The VA rating of APF in the proposed HAPF topology is 23.4% of that of the conventional parallel topology in simulation, which is consistent with the theoretical value of 20.2%. |
