Abstract	Previous studies have revealed the pivotal role of external knowledge sourcing in stimulating product innovation. However, the boundary conditions of this positive role have not been fully explored. Building on the knowledge-based view, this study explores the influence of external knowledge sourcing on product innovation, and further investigates the moderating effect of organizational implementation in this relationship. We propose that external knowledge sourcing facilitates innovating products. In addition, we suggest that the organizational implementation appears to be a double-edged sword, simultaneously amplifying and attenuating the positive effect of external knowledge sourcing. Using the survey data collected from high-tech firms in China, we found empirical support for all hypotheses. These findings provide novel insights into how firms in emerging markets can enhance the role of sourcing external knowledge in driving product innovation.
