AbstractThis paper attempts to use the general theories of syntactic operations to research the syntactic operations of hypothetical sentences and uae the theories of languages typology to interpretate differences of the postions of hypothetical markers. The paper is divided into two parts. The firest part through investigating hypothetical sentences of 34 language and 43 Chinese dialect and acording to differences of the match of syntactic devices and syntactic positions, the syntactic operations of hypothetical sentences can be divided into four types:sentence-initial adjoining/pre-predicate adjioning/sentence-final adjioning/pre-predicate movement. The second part through examinating the relations of postions of 189 markers and language order of clauses. It is found that the postions of hypothetical markers and typology of languages are harmonious, specifically, VO-language tends to use prepositional markers while OV-language prefers to employ postpositional markers. Chinese dialects also display such a harmony of varying degrees.
