Abstract

A Sagnac interferometer temperature sensor based on liquid crystal filled side hole fiber (SHF) is designed and studied. Liquid crystal's refractive index is sensitive to temperature changes. Therefore, the temperature sensitivity of the liquid crystal-filled sagnac interferometer is enhanced. Finally, temperature measurement and temperature sensing with sensitivity up to 223pm/°C can be achieved. This is about 20 times that of the Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensor.
