Abstract

Metal halide perovskites, as an emerging class of photovoltaic materials, possess superior properties, in particular, low cost, solution processability, long and balanced charge carrier diffusion length, and benign defect tolerance. In addition to the substantial progress in solar cells, perovskites have also revolutionized the fields of X-ray and photodetectors, light-emitting diodes, and lasers. Benefitting from the direct and tunable bandgap, high photoluminescence quantum yield spanning from ultraviolet to near infrared, and most importantly, competitive radiative recombination at high carrier injection level, perovskites have sparked extensive attention in the field of coherent light emission. In this chapter, the development history of metal halide perovskite lasers are briefly reviewed, and then the advancements in boosting the lasing performance is presented. Finally, we discuss challenges and perspective on the future trends of perovskite lasers.
