Abstract | According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health conditions are increasing worldwide. There has, however, been little research focused on how to motivate people with low-level psychological wellbeing to travel. In this study, we will use Mental Health Continuum-Short Form (MHC-SF) to assess the mental health status of the participants (Keyes, 2005). Similar to the standard used to diagnosis major depressive episode, the MHC-SF provided a clear standard for the assessment and a categorization of levels of positive mental health. It consists of 14 items, including 3 items of emotional well-being (happy, interested in life, and satisfied), 6 items of psychological well-being (e.g. liked most parts of your personality), and 5 items of social well-being (e.g. belonged to a community). The APA defines languishing as the absence of mental health. Languishing individuals must experience low levels (i.e., ‘never’ or ‘once or twice’ during the past month) on at least one measure of emotional well–being and low levels on at least six measures of psychological and social well-being. |
