Abstract | This study investigates factors that influence audience trust in mainstream media across 64 countries. Results indicate that along with a few demographic factors, the use of mainstream media significantly predicts mainstream media trust, while the use of online and social media is negatively associated with mainstream media trust. At the country level, press freedom and uncertainty avoidance negatively predict trust in mainstream media. The only statistically significant interaction effect is between gender and internet access. |
