Abstract | Incorporating technology in legal proceedings has become increasingly important, given the pressures on judicial resources brought by increased litigiousness. The use of technology in court systems has several advantages, including reducing costs and improving judicial efficiency. Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau have implemented laws related to court technology to expedite proceedings, which can improve cross-border dispute resolution and, consequently, the progress of the Greater Bay Area project. However, different legal approaches and levels of investment in technology in these three regions have complicated the use of technology in resolving disputes. To address this challenge and create an efficient system for dispute resolution, it is necessary to comprehensively understand the current laws governing technology use in court proceedings across the three regions. Given the differences in the approaches in these three jurisdictions, promoting cross-regional learning opportunities may facilitate mutual learning from the successful implementation of technology-related laws in each jurisdiction. By collaborating, the three regions can identify areas for improvement and work towards revising their legal frameworks to achieve a more harmonised legal environment. |
