AbstractAfter a brief review of the development of global positioning system (GPS) applications in power systems in the last decade, the paper proposes precondition and theoretical framework for transient stability control based on GPS synchronized phasor measurements. The research results are introduced in five classes: fast calculation approaches based on simplified model, clustering of coherent generators, extrapolation of phasor angle dynamics, energy function and artificial intelligent. Although there are many application of GPS technology in power systems, the most advanced application of GPS synchronized phasor measurement is the transient stability predictive control in multi-machines power system. In conclusion, the paper proposes on-line security monitoring and control theory frame based on response analysis and calculation.
