Input Capacitance Compensated Neural Recording Amplifier

Abstract

 Extracellular recording of a single neuron requires the use of a sharp electrode to measure action potentials originating from the target neuron while rejecting interference from other non-target neurons in the surrounding. Here we propose adding a feedback capacitor in the amplifier design to lower the equivalent input capacitance. The benefit of lowering the overall input capacitance is two-fold: 1) the cut-off frequency of the recording bandwidth is increased to above 5 kHz, and 2) the signal-to-noise ratio is also increased.
