Abstract

The fine structure of ZnO A-free exciton is studied by angular dependent magneto-photoluminescence measurements in Voigt configuration at T = 5K. Two resolved lines in the fine structure are assigned to be from a dipole-forbidden Γ state and a dipole-active Γ state respectively, according to their specific magnetic field dependences. The top valence band symmetry in wurtzite ZnO is then identified to be A-Γ. © 2007 American Institute of Physics.
