Abstract | Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) are widely used as reinforcement materials in polymeric matrix systems because of their outstanding mechanical and electrical properties. In this paper, MWNT were adopted to fabricate the thin films of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) nanocomposites. The properties of nanocomposites such as storage modulus, initial modulus, volume resistance, electrical and thermal conductivity were investigated in this article. The results of continuous dynamic mechanical analysis (CDA) and tensile test showed that adding MWNT to PDMS improved the storage and initial modulus of PDMS. The volume resistances of nanocomposites decreased with increase of MWNT content. With the addition of 0.5wt% of MWNTs, the volume resistance of PDMS/MWNT decreased by about five orders of magnitude. This means that the percolation threshold of the electrical conductivity was less than 0.5wt%. |
