AbstractCarbon nanotubes not only possess particular physical characteristics such as light weight, electrical conductivity, highly thermal conductivity and thermal stability, etc. but also widely apply on aircraft, aerospace and EMI. The function of functional group generated from the surface of CNT apparently influences on the dispersion among the epoxy resin which may also vary the mechanical properties of nanocomposites. Due to above-mentioned effects, carbon nanotubes in this paper are treated with oxidizing in organic acids, it makes the surface modification of the nanotubes to improve the quality of mechanical properties for nanocomposites. Carbon nanotubes dispersed into epoxy resin via sonication method and prepared nano-prepreg composite with polymer matrix and carbon fiber. Mechanical properties and electrical conductivity are investigated for the composites with different proportions of carbon nanotubes content, and the ability of resisting that materials suffer to the treated material under different temperature environments are also observed. The experimental result shows that mechanical strength increases as the weight percentage of the nanotube increases. In the experiment of heat treatment, the intensity is reduced with the temperature increased due to the different coefficient of thermal expansion between the fibers and matrix. Morphologies of the fracture surface of carbon nanotubes / epoxy resin nano-prepreg are observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM).
