AbstractThe fatigue and microscopic behaviors of [0/45/90/-45] quasi-isotropic carbon/epoxy composite laminates were analyzed. The distribution of their residual tensile strength in different hygrothermal surroundings and the effects of varying loads on the fatigue behavior and failure mechanisms were also studied. Besides, C-scan and SEM methods were used to check the defects of the inner laminate after fatigue process. The residual strengths of the specimens under hygrothermal treatment decreased, especially for specimens treated at 60°C with 60%RH (T60H60) condition. For higher stress levels, the T60H60 treated specimens have the longest fatigue life, and the T60H90 specimens have the shortest fatigue life. However, for lower stress levels, the T25H60 treated specimens have the longest fatigue life and the T25H90 treated specimens have the shortest fatigue life.
