Abstract | Macau changed its colonial status to Special Administrative Region (SAR) after its sovereignty was handed back to China in 1999. Its labor market became very tight after the liberalization of the casino industry in 2002. This paper studies employers' preference in terms of selection methods and if they would place different emphasis on skills, knowledge, and experience as employment criteria in response to the sudden labor market changes. Findings showed that resume and interview are the most frequently used methods, while graphology and genetic screening are the least used methods. Employers consider human relations skills as the most important skills in their future employee. Reasons for employee turnover are mentioned afterwards. Implications and limitations are included. |
