Abstract | This chapter provides a better insight for managing multicultural workforce in Chinese communities in the areas of supervisor–subordinate communication and supervisor–subordinate relationship. It examines the importance of supervisor–subordinate communication and perceptual congruence of communication on supervisor–subordinate relationship in multinational corporations of a Chinese community. Perceptual congruence, as one of the key features of supervisor-subordinate communication, not only leads to clear role expectations on the part of the subordinates, but also shows that the supervisor has a clear picture of the communication exchange in regard to the subordinate. The common explanation is that perceptual congruence in communication implies subordinate's accurate interpretation of the role expectations from the supervisor. The relationships between perceptual congruence on communication and employees' satisfaction toward their supervisors in terms of trust, fairness, friendliness and competency are examined. The impact of perceptual congruence might not be the same in different industry, different culture, different power distance, or different management styles. |
