Abstract	The fibric acid derivatives, which are also named as fibrates, are the first choice of triglyceride-lowering treatment in clinic. Currently, foreign companies almost monopolize the fibrate market in China, while local firms only occupy 10% of the market. This article made a comparative analysis of the technological type and institutional distribution of fibrates between America, Europe and China through a review of authorized patents. As a result, this research found that the core technologies of fibrates are pharmaceutical preparation and drug combination. Fenofibrate has a larger potential than other fibrates according to the patent analysis result. Local firms in China should speed up the technology intensification and follow the international technical direction to get more competitive power.
