Abstract

Microstructure and mechanical properties of ceramic mold low pressure casting magnesium alloy were investigated. The results reveal that middle-size parts can be produced by low pressure casting, and the produced parts exhibit higher size precision, in which the angular error is only 1.16%. As-cast microstructure of the parts is composed of α-Mg phase and Mg Nd phase. The ceramic mold low pressure casting magnesium alloy with average grain size of approximately 64 μm and tensile strength of 155MPa is obtained as a result of decreasing in cooling rate, and fracture morphology of the alloy is characterized by brittle cleavage rupture.
