Abstract	Objective: To determine the effect of the compound preparation of agkistrodon halyx pallas venom (Bingcha embolus) on pain threshold and bone destruction in bone cancer induced by W256 cancer cells in rats. Methods: Sprague-Dawley female rats were divided into 6 groups. Bone cancer pain was induced according to a published method. From the 15th day after operation, rats were treated with blank embolus, rotundine, and 3 doses (101, 50.5 and 25.25 mg·kg) of Bingcha embolus, respectively. The pain thresholds were measured by hot plate test and paw-pressure detector before and after the treatments to assess the analgesic effect. After the last treatment, the X-ray images of left hind legs were observed and the pathology in bone tissues was examined in all the rats. Results: Bingcha embolus remarkably increased thresholds of thermal and pressure pains in rats with the bone cancer, and attenuated the bone destruction induced by W256 cells. Conclusion: Bingcha embolus possesses an analgesic effect on bone cancer pain induced by W256 cancer cells in rats.
