Abstract

Given the rising demand for increases in the switching frequency and efficiency of switched-mode power conversion, the introduction of an undergraduate/postgraduate course on Advanced Power Electronics is both timely and important, and new teaching materials must be designed. This paper presents the evolution of soft-switching technologies, as well as a discussion of operating principles, performance characteristics, experimental results, merits and limitations. The purpose of the new course is to provide the students with up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of advanced power electronic circuits. Additionally, this paper can help the academic community in developing an intimate understanding of various soft-switching topologies.
