Abstract

A matrix is said to be stable if the real parts of all its eigenvalues are negative. In this paper, for any matrix A n , we discuss the stability properties of T. Chan’s preconditioner c U (A n ) from the viewpoint of the numerical range. An application in the numerical solution of ODEs is also given.
